Quranic surahs that we read after every prayer
As Muslims, we should read Quran daily and the best way to do that is by reading Quranic surahs after each prayer.
In the Quran, Allah says: “This is the Book! There is no doubt about it—a guide for those mindful [of Allah].” (Quran 2:2)
Allah tells us that the Quran is here to guide us and help us in our daily lives, but how will the Quran guide us if we don’t read it regularly?
Also, Allah says in another verse: “We send down the Quran as a healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss.” (Quran 17:82)

Surahs to recite daily or weekly
1- The Four Quls:
The four surahs are called Quls because they al start with the word Qul= قل meaning “Say”. In the surahs Allah is telling the prophet to recite the words of the surahs. They are known as the short surahs in the last two pages of the Quran. It’s a good idea to make them the surah of the day.
The four surahs are:
- Al-Kafirun
Say [O Prophet], “O you disbelievers!
I do not worship what you worship.
Nor do you worship what I worship.
I will never worship what you worship.
nor will you ever worship what I worship.
You have your way, and I have my Way.” (Quran 109:1-6)
The message of the surah is to remind us that there is no god but Allah and we shouldn’t worship anyone else.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessing be upon him) said:
“’ Idha Zulzilat’ is equal to half of the Quran, Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad is equal to a third of the Quran, and Qul Ya Ayyuhal-Kafirun is equal to a fourth of the Quran.”
(Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2894)
The hadith tells us the reward of reading surah Kafirun which is reading just it is similar to reading the fourth of the Quran. So, make sure to read it daily
- Al-Ikhlas
Say [O Prophet], “He is Allah—One [and Indivisible];
Allah—the Sustainer [needed by all].
He has never had offspring, nor was He born.
And there is none comparable to Him.”
(Quran 112:1-4)
This surah shows us who Allah is, even though it is a short surah it holds a great reward for the reciter. The prophet said in the hadith that reading surah Al-Ikhlas is like reading one-third of the Quran. The prophet used to pray with surah Kafirun and Ikhlas in the optional prayer before Fajr and also in Witr.
“The Prophet (PBUH) would recite in the two (supererogatory) Rakahs of the dawn prayer: “Say, O unbelievers” {Surat al-Kafiroon} and “Say: He is Allah, the one {Surat al-Ikhlas}.” [Sunan Abi Dawud 1256]
2- Al-Mu’awwidhatain:
- Surah Al-Falaq
Say, [O Prophet], “I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak,
From the evil of whatever He has created,
And from the evil of the night when it grows dark,
And from the evil of those [witches casting spells by] blowing onto knots,
from the evil of an envier when they envy.”
(Quran 113:1-5)
- Surah An-Nas
Say [O Prophet], “I seek refuge in the Lord of humankind,
the Master of humankind,
the God of humankind,
From the evil of the lurking whisperer,
Who whispers into the hearts of humankind,
From among jinn and humankind.”
(Quran 114:1-6)
Those two surahs are known as the Al-Mu’awwidhatain or ‘the verses of refuge’. They protect us against evil things when reciting them.
Surah Falaq protects us against:
- Evil creatures (people, animals, jinn, etc.)
- any sort of magic
- enviers
while surah Nas protects us from humans and jinn, it protects us from going on the wrong path that humans and jinn are leading us to.
You should read surah Ikhlas and Ma’awwidhatain after the daily prayer, before sleeping, and when waking up so that Allah protects you from any harm. The prophet(peace and blessing be upon him) said:
‘Abdullah bin Khubaib reported: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said to me, “Recite Surat Al-Ikhlas and Al- Mu’awwidhatain (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) three times at dawn and dusk. It will suffice you in all respects.”
(Riyad as-Salihin 1456)
surahs to recite after every prayer
- Ayat Al-Kursi
It is a verse from surah Baqarah, it is famous for its being the greatest verse of the Quran, we should memorize it and recite it regularly and after each salah.
“Allah! There is no god [worthy of worship] except Him, the Ever-Living, All-Sustaining. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who could possibly intercede with Him without His permission? He [fully] knows what is ahead of them and what is behind them, but no one can grasp any of His knowledge—except what He wills [to reveal]. His Seat encompasses the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not tire Him. For He is the Most High, the Greatest.” (Quran 2:255)
The verse shows us that there is no god but Allah and his magnificence. The prophet said:
“Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death will prevent him from entering Paradise.”
(al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr 7406)
Be sure to recite it after each prayer, before sleeping and when waking up.
- The Last Ten Verses of Ali-‘Imran
Here is a hadith about reciting it:
“(One night) I stayed overnight in the house of my aunt Maimuna, and said to myself, “I will watch the prayer of Allah’s Messenger (pbuh).” My aunt placed a cushion for Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) and he slept on it in its length-wise direction and (woke-up) rubbing the traces of sleep off his face and then he recited the last ten Verses of Surah Ali-‘Imran until he finished it. Then he went to a hanging water skin and took it, performed the ablution and then stood up to offer the prayer….”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 4570)
The prophet used to start his day reciting the last ten verses of surah Ali-‘Imran and we should do the same.
Here are the last ten verses that you should recite:
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 190
Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding –
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 191
Who remember Allah while standing or sitting or [lying] on their sides and give thought to the creation of the heavens and the earth, [saying], “Our Lord, You did not create this aimlessly; exalted are You [above such a thing]; then protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 192
Our Lord, indeed whoever You admit to the Fire – You have disgraced him, and for the wrongdoers there are no helpers.
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 193
Our Lord, indeed we have heard a caller [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] calling to faith, [saying], ‘Believe in your Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord, so forgive us our sins and remove from us our misdeeds and cause us to die among the righteous.
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 194
Our Lord, and grant us what You promised us through Your messengers and do not disgrace us on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, You do not fail in [Your] promise.”
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 195
And their Lord responded to them, “Never will I allow to be lost the work of [any] worker among you, whether male or female; you are of one another. So those who emigrated or were evicted from their homes or were harmed in My cause or fought or were killed – I will surely remove from them their misdeeds, and I will surely admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow as reward from Allah, and Allah has with Him the best reward.”
What is recited on a daily basis Islam?
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 196
Be not deceived by the [uninhibited] movement of the disbelievers throughout the land.
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 197
[It is but] a small enjoyment; then their [final] refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 198
But those who feared their Lord will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein, as accommodation from Allah. And that which is with Allah is best for the righteous.
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 199
And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allah. They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account. — Saheeh International
Surah Al-Imran verse (ayat) 200
O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.
What Surah should you listen to everyday?
- Al-Mulk:
Surah Al-Mulk is longer than the last surahs and verses we discussed so far but it will only take five minutes from you to finish it. So, it’s not that long. Also reading it provides protection and intercession in the Hereafter.
Abu Hurairah (Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Verily, there is a Surah in the Holy Quran comprising of thirty verses. It intercedes for a person until he is forgiven, and that Surah is Tabaara kallazee biyadi hil mulk (Surah Mulk).”
(Jami ‘ At-Tirmidhi 2891)
Meaning that this surah will speak on the frequent reciter’s behalf on the judgment day. The surah discusses many topics including how perfect is the creation of Allah, and the reward and punishment of the judgment day. When reading this surah your mind will focus on the real purpose of life and what is really important. So, recite it daily after praying Isha.
- Al-Kahf:
This surah is longer than surah Mulk and we should recite it every Friday, it was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) when the people were trying to confirm his Prophethood. Reading it every Friday grants us many rewards, and it also has great virtue, here is a hadith about reciting the Quranic surah.
“Whoever reads Surah al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.”
(Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6470)
In this surah, there are four surahs to learn from and they are:
- People of the Cave
- A man and his Two Gardens
- Musa and Khidr
- Dhul Qarnain’s Journey
Why are we ordered to recite Surah Yaseen daily?
We should try our best to read the whole Quran every month to be guided and learn from it. However, there are some surahs that the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) instructed us to read daily. Some to protect from poverty or an intercessor on the Day of Judgement.
Here are the three surahs that you should read:
- Surah Yasin
Anas ibn Malik (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘Indeed, for everything, there is a heart, and the Qur’an’s heart is Yasin. Whoever recites Yasin, then for its recitation, Allah writes for him that he recited the Qur’an ten times. [Tirmidhi]
The Sahabah and scholars said that it is better to read surah Yasin in the morning, this way Allah will bless the rest of the day. Jabir ibn Samura said, ‘The Messenger of Allah (saw) used to recite Surah Yasin in the morning’. [Tabarani]
Also, we should read surah Yasin for our beloveds once that has passed away to give them peace and relief.
According to Maqal ibn Yasser, the prophet said: “Read Ya Seen over your dead” (Reported by Ahmed, Abu Dawud, and ibn Majah.)
From this hadith, we understand that the prophet told us to read surah Yaseen for the dead at any time.
It also Grants Forgiveness to the dead, Lightens the way for them, and Lightened the Grave.
What are the Surahs that we should Recite Every Day?
- Surah al-Waqi’ah
Surah al-Waqi’ah is well-known for being ‘the Surah of wealth’.
Abdullah ibn Masud (RA) reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said, ‘Whoever recites Surah al-Waqi’ah every night, he will never be afflicted by poverty. And Ibn Masud used to order his daughters to recite it every night. [Bayhaqi]
It is reported that, when Abdullah ibn Masud (RA) was close to passing away, Uthman (RA) offered him a stipend for the work that he had done for the community, which Abdullah (RA) had never claimed before. Uthman (RA) suggested that, now that he was passing away, the stipend could be useful for his daughters. Abdullah (RA) simply said, ‘Do you fear poverty for my children? I have commanded them to read Surah al-Waqi’ah every night…’
- Surah al-Mulk
The Prophet (saw) said, ‘There is a Surah in the Qur’an, of thirty verses, which will intercede for its companion until he is forgiven: Blessed is He in whose Hand is the dominion (i.e. Surah al-Mulk)’. [Abu Dawud]
It is best to recite surah Mulk after praying Isha and try to understand the meaning of the surah and every verse you are reading.
Jabir reported, ‘The Prophet (saw) would not go to sleep until he had recited the chapters “The revelation of the Book, in which there is no doubt, from the Lord of the worlds” ( Surah Al-Sajdah) and “Blessed is He in whose Hand is the dominion, and He has power over all things” (i.e. Surah al-Mulk)’. [Tirmidhi]
